Waterlilies, study
The spatial complexities of waterlilies are a fascinating study for the painter. The perfect white blossoms are always near the lily pads, which have a curious waterproof surface which is simultaneous red and green. They are held up by the water surface which ripples each gently, and each ripple reflects the sky on one side and shows a view through to the lake bottom on the other. The pristine lilies are connected to the mud on the bottom by corkscrews of stem and here you can see the sunken logs on the lakebed illuminated by shifting bands of sunlight.
Oil on canvas; 8 x 10 inches, $250
