Elephant Hill

Elephant Hill Provincial Park, B.C., is a huge hill of eroded sedimentary rock. We stayed overnight at a bed and breakfast on a mesa above Ashcroft. When we got up in the morning we were able to step out onto the veranda and watch the dawn’s light slowly reveal Elephant Hill as it took the sunshine over the Thompson River. The huge clear early morning September sky over the arid landscape brought to mind the sweeping skies of Emily Carr’s late paintings. Inspired by the majestic view, this is the largest canvas in this exhibition.
